THE OPTIONS ARE ENDLESS...

Let's break this up into zones, or regions for you, or perhaps we can find something off the beaten track? That's when it gets really exciting! All destinations offer a variety of accommodation types with remarkably different service levels and wildlife experiences. Some destinations are better suited to offer a variety of walking, boating, kayaking and even cultural experiences. There are also a number of destinations providing specialist services, such as photographic or fishing guides and services in foreign languages. By emailing us your preferences, we can share more specific information, and a few travel tips!

SOUTHERN AFRICA

There are so many options and must see's for Southern Africa, and as a born and bred South African, I naturally have a ton of great opportunities to put forward. From wildlife to city life, vineyards to migratory whales this place has it all.

Johannesburg is a major entry point for any Southern African safari and offers world-class accommodations and hospitality. This is a truly vibrant city and provides a lot to those willing to spend some days exploring the cultural and historical memories the town can share. A personal favourite of mine and many travellers would be Cape Town; which doesn't typically need much by way of introduction. Cape Town is known as the mother city and is a metropolitan hub of culture, heritage and all-round natural beauty. Visit the expansive wine lands, take a walk on Table Mountain, visit the colourful impoverished areas holding secrets of the past or treat yourself to a tour of the infamous prison cell of the once great leader, Madiba on Robben Island.

EAST AFRICA

When considering East Africa, the first options popping to mind are Kenya and Tanzania! One thinks of vast open plains; dotted with picturesque acacia trees, grazing herbivores and Africa's renowned predators. Yes, East Africa is well known for big game and the game-viewing here is geared around the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra through the greater Serengeti eco-system. Anything from 1.4 million wildebeest and a few hundred thousand zebras moving through the Serengeti (Tanzania) and Masai Mara (Kenya) in search of good grazing, which in turn attracts and excites the fierce predatory population along the way.

In addition to Tanzania and Kenya, East Africa also includes new and exciting options for travel to Ethiopia, Rwanda and Uganda which are discussed under primate regions below. To complete a full circle of biodiversity and cultural immersion, I would recommend combining a number of these destinations into one journey; or ending your wildlife experience on the stunning island of Zanzibar to bathe away your safari dust in the crystal clear Indian Ocean.

PRIMATE EXPERIENCES

Naturally, the majority of Africa's primate population is located along the continents equatorial regions, however populations have been decimated over decades of civil unrest and hunting. A few pockets of really good populations still exist today in protected areas, and have fast become one of the greatest safari trends.

Some regions have been sharing these delights for a number of years already, and positive tourism impacts have had a great result on localised animal populations and conservation activities and education. One of the newest regions to come online with lowland gorilla is that Rwanda, and already the impact has been hugely rewarding for the species, and the Rwandan people.

OVERWHELMED?

If this is all too confusing, and you're unsure where to even start; why not ponder over some of these items to help you understand what your ultimate goal is? These are the items we will discuss when we chat. By understanding your special needs, ultimate desires, or physical limitations could help us narrow this down a little...

Desire

Is it the intimate experience you're after, or perhaps even the extreme private in a secluded villa. Alternatively, are you looking for escape through other like-minded travellers, and social interaction with laughter and storytelling around a warming fire?

Time

How much time do you have for your entire journey? Africa can take up to 36 hours to get to, so three days of travel before you even commence your safari. Do you need quick, easy and high impact, or are you happy to take your time and explore?

Luxury

Safari pricing can vary from USD450 per person per day to USD4,000 per person per day. Price ultimately determines the level of comfort, attentiveness of the staff and sometimes even the wildlife offering. You need to know your budget to get the best you can from your Dollar.

Convenience

Are you the kind of person who prefers time to explore every corner of a single location, and avoid relocation efforts and costs? Alternatively, is living out of a suitcase and relocating every few days your idea of excitement and maximising the journey and its experiences?

When

Consider seasonality and general weather patterns. While a magnificent African thunderstorm could be a dream come true for some adventurous travellers, others might allow it to wash away their enthusiasm. What type are you?

Your Health

Some safari destinations are in malaria areas, or even other medium-risk disease zones. We generally avoid these, but if this could have a negative impact on you, it is best to advise us. Most other health factors or requirements can be catered for if known in advance.
