His love for adventure, Africa, it’s people and cultures started in the early 1980’s, when Safari Guru Allan started looking after school children during school outings to the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, at a time before the commercialisation of safari camps in South Africa. It was this fascination of the African bushveld, which inspired a career in the safari industry which has spanned more than 20 years.
With his experience working at high-end luxury safari camps throughout South Africa and Botswana where attention to detail and knowledge of the natural environment are essential, Allan has spent countless hours training and mentoring young aspiring guides and lodge managers, who now ply their trade at high-end luxury safari camps throughout Africa, many of them featuring on Safari Guru’s favourites list.
During this time, he not only developed a profound knowledge of the fauna and flora of the African wilderness but was also fortunate to have had the time to enjoy and develop his personal passion for ornithology.
Today Allan lives in the beautiful town of Franschhoek on ChanteClair Wine Farm and Guest House and when not hosting guests in a remote part of Africa on a private safari, he enjoys sharing his intimate knowledge with Safari Guru travellers wishing to get more from their African journey in and around the Cape of Good Hope. Allan is as at home touring the wine regions of Stellenbosch or doing a scenic drive around the Cape Peninsula as he is tracking white rhino through the savannah on foot and looks forward to hosting Safari Guru guests visiting the African continent.
