Botswana Dream Safari

Mention Botswana to any keen safari go-er and watch them go misty-eyed and swoon - this is one of Africa's top wildlife sanctuaries, a truly pristine and pure African wilderness.

Botswana is home to the big 5, abundant predators, plains game and hundreds of species of animals and birds and offers the chance to spot creatures seldom seen elsewhere.

Ask many safari guides and specialists if we could only go to just one more destination – chances are - it would be a 'Botswana Dream Safari.'

From the shimmering waters of Botswana's Okavango Delta to the vast stretches of the Kalahari Desert, Botswana's diverse landscapes create a haven for an incredible array of wildlife, and Safari Guru just made it better with a touch of luxury! Surprisingly, "Bots", as it's lovingly known, might not be what you have in your mind's eye when you think of an African safari; it's water, bushfeld and riverine - not vast plains, but offers incredible beauty.

Safari Guru's Botswana Dream Safari includes four unique destinations with 'Safari Guru Certified' luxury accommodations that we know will forever imprint exhilarating memories years to come.

Your dream safari kicks off in the world's largest inland delta, the Okavango, a watery wonderland offering big game viewing and fantastic birdlife in many rich and varied picturesque habitats. In our opinion, the Okavango Delta is on the bucket list of bucket-list destinations.

Further north-east, the Linyanti Concession, including the Chobe National Park, holds some of the most significant elephant populations on the planet. This vast expanse of wilderness offers guests the contrast of wooded savannah safaris to perennial waterways, with abundant wildlife during the drier months. The famous Savuti channel forms a significant boundary into the Linyanti and holds tales of animals that frequent many nature documentaries.

More than some of the planets most enthralling wildlife, Botswana also offers one of the world's most giant salt pans, once the site of one of the largest inland seas on Earth. Northeast of Africa's Kalahari Desert and southeast of the Okavango Delta lies the Makgadikgadi Pans. A journey to the Makgadikgadi Pans is a pilgrimage to an extraordinary desert oasis, where nature's wonders and cultural heritage intertwine - a hidden gem offering mesmerising salt pans, diverse wildlife and immersive cultural experiences.

Imagine a sprawling oasis that paints a vivid picture of life's interconnectedness. The Okavango Delta, often referred to as "Africa's Last Eden," is a mesmerising labyrinth of waterways, islands, and lush landscapes. Its unique charm lies in the fact that it's an inland delta, an oasis formed by the convergence of the Okavango River and the Kalahari Desert. As the river meanders through this paradise, it breathes life into the arid surroundings, attracting an astonishing array of wildlife.

Visiting the Okavango Delta is an immersion into a world where elephants wade gracefully through crystal-clear waters, lions lazing under the shade of towering reeds, and leopards prowl through the papyrus fringes.

Your first destination, Vumbura Plains Camp, offers the ultimate water safari experience, where you'll embark on boating safaris and a traditional mokoro (dugout canoe), offering an intimate experience where you glide along the water's surface, witnessing the exquisite ballet of nature up close. Every turn reveals new wonders – from the symphonic calls of minute amphibians and colourful birds to the stealthy presence of crocodiles.

From the Delta's labyrinth of water-arteries, we take you to its heart; the Moremi Game Reserve named after Chief Moremi, who once protected it as his private hunting area, is situated on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta and offers a safe and protected refuge for all species found in this unique delta environment, creating one of Africa's most sought after, and best wildlife reserves.

The luxurious Chiefs Camp is situated on Chief's Island in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve. Here, wildlife and wilderness are as abundant as action, adrenaline, refinement and relaxation at this remarkable remodelled Camp. Personal service, an extraordinary setting, exceptional viewing, and enthusiastic expert guides separate this property from others in this world-famous Heritage listed destination.

Intimate and exclusive, Chief's Camp by Sanctuary is set in an outstanding natural landscape, where vast tracts of dry areas are made up of varied woodlands, grasslands, and seasonal floodplains, attracting many plains game and predators such as lions, leopards, wild dogs, and cheetahs.

At Chief's Camp, one can expect exceptional attention to detail and strong environmental and philanthropic credentials to ensure the ultimate luxury safari experience.

For those seeking exclusivity and unfiltered encounters with Africa's wild heart, the Linyanti Private Reserve beckons. Nestled in the remote reaches of northern Botswana, this reserve offers a front-row seat to the drama of the wilderness, unencumbered by crowds.

Linyanti is a mosaic of diverse ecosystems, from expansive floodplains to lush riverine forests. It's renowned for its high concentrations of predators and elephants, creating an environment where wildlife encounters are both thrilling and profound. Imagine watching a pride of lions on the hunt, feeling the earth vibrate beneath your feet as a herd of elephants passes by, or witnessing a pack of African wild dogs in their element – these are the moments that make Linyanti a safari aficionado's paradise.

What sets Linyanti apart is its commitment to sustainable tourism, and none more so than DumaTau Camp overlooking Osprey Lagoon. Here, wildlife activities include day and night game drives, walks, and boating along the Linyanti River's serene waters as the sun dips into a Namibian background.

With some luck, Africa's majestic elephants will play a part and share in one of Botswana's most sought-after vistas - Video - Elephants Swimming.

Venture into a realm that defies all expectations – the Makgadikgadi Pans. These otherworldly salt pans, the remnants of an ancient lake, offer an ethereal experience that words can scarcely capture. Vast and seemingly endless, the Makgadikgadi Pans is a place of both stillness and motion.

The contrast between the wet and dry seasons transforms this barren expanse into a stage for one of Africa's most awe-inspiring spectacles – the Great Migration of zebras and wildebeests. As the rains grace the pans, they spring to life with nutrient-rich grasses, drawing thousands of animals into a timeless journey for survival.

But it's not just the migration that captivates here. Come here for the stars of the show - the meerkats – there are a few habituated colonies near Jack's Camp and an encounter with these playful creatures can almost be guaranteed.

From Jack's, you'll venture where the cracked earth stretches to the horizon, providing an opportunity for reflection and contemplation. The Makgadikgadi Pans is a place where time stands still, offering a last chance to disconnect from the frenetic pace of modern life before your journey home.
