Mention the Okavango Delta to any keen safari go-er and watch them go misty-eyed and swoon…this is one of Africa's top wildlife sanctuaries, a truly pristine and pure African wilderness. This watery wonderland offers big game viewing and fantastic birdlife in a myriad of rich and varied picturesque habitats.
Perhaps the Okavango may not be what you have in your mind's eye when you think of a safari, but it is home to the big 5, many other predators, plains game and hundreds of species of animals and birds and offers the chance to spot creatures seldom seen elsewhere, such as sitatunga, Pels fishing owl, wild dog and the ever so majestic wattled cranes. In our opinion, the Okavango Delta is the bucket list of bucket-list destinations. Ask many safari guides and specialists if we could only go to just one more destination – chances are - this would be it.
Your journey kicks off with a laughter-filled dinner in South Africa, a relaxed meet and greet, and get excited and ready yourselves for the journey ahead.
The Protea Hotel is a great easy beginning, and only a stone's throw from Johannesburg international airport. A relaxed start allows you time to unwind from your flight and prepare for your safari ahead, with the hotels' modern gym facilities and lap pool, dinner and a hearty rejuvenating breakfast. This modern hotel offers the perfect blend of style, comfort and convenience only minutes from the international airport.
Your next stop is Botswana's safari capital, Maun! This is where your safari begins; Africa's most exclusive safari destination.
Your Botswana Safari begins at the very comfortable, fairly new, stunning Setari Camp. This gorgeous, water-based camp, is tucked deep within the main 'artery' of the Okavango on a picture-perfect palm island. It offers us a magical start to our Okavango Safari. Explore by motorboat, by foot or by makoro (the traditional Botswana poled canoe), offering eye-level views of the Delta vegetation and its colourful inhabitants.
Setari Camp resembles an enormous treehouse. The entire construction is elevated with wooden walkways linking the impressive sitting and dining areas, pool-with-a-view, gym and curio shop. Setari Camp accommodates guests in just eight, exclusive light and airy, comfortable tents. Each tent cleverly combines understated luxury with an authentic and relaxed stylish furnishings, including indoor/outdoor showers, plus deep free standing baths. Rooms are based upon twin share, all-inclusive rate, each offering a private deck with spectacular views over the Okavango sunsets and sunrises.
From Setari, you will head to Seba Camp, located in a famous private area in Botswana. It is well known for dramatic wildlife viewing and often used as a base for elephant behaviour research, and wildlife filmmakers. Here you will live out your land-based safari experiences as you track and locate Africa's famous wildlife. This is the land of the predators, including the elusive leopard and, if you're lucky, the critically endangered African wild dog.
Seba Camp is set in a wildlife wonderland with a magical riverine setting within a forest of majestic hardwood trees.
Each of Seba's eight well-appointed guest tents has its own vibrant decor that celebrates the various ethnic people of Botswana. Seba Camp runs on various green operating systems, including 100% solar, to ensure as light an environmental footprint as possible.
