East Africa, including Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda is ready for business, with international borders all open by the end of August 2020, which is the absolute earliest we would recommend any travel. Providing uncompromising space and social distancing; East Africa also offers some of the planets most iconic landscapes, cultures and free-roaming, untamed wildlife. International flights for easy access to all destinations include; Emirates, QATAR, British Airways, Air Kenya and Air Rwanda.
Tanzania - Highlights include; Mt Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, all offering fabulous game viewing, welcoming people and easy scheduled travel in the popular northern circuit. For those wishing to get 'off-the-beaten-track', consider a private light-aircraft charter to the wilds of the Selous and Ruaha National Parks further to the south and East.
Easy international connection through Nairobi in Kenya, Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro. On arrival, travellers must provide proof of being COVID-19 negative and have temperature screening, but there are no quarantine requirements for international visitors. Easy, comfortable and private transfers from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha to overnight if required in the case of late arrivals!
Kenya - The building block of most Kenyan safaris is the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Yet Laikipia, Meru and the Samburu National Reserves; all offer superb game viewing, fantastic wildlife and unique variety for your safari encounters, and excellent cultural activities to share along the way.
After adopting its global health and hygiene protocols, Kenya has been awarded the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) "Safe Travel Stamp"!
International arrivals open for business at Nairobi's JKIA International Airport. Depending on flight arrival times into JKIA, travellers options include private and comfortable road transfers to Wilson Airport, to connect directly with the Maasai Mara or other areas, or overnight in Nairobi at safe and secure preferred hotel accommodation, before flying the following morning to any safari destination.
Rwanda - Africa's supreme gorilla trekking destination, offering pristine tropical rainforest and big five wildlife viewing now in the Akagera National Park! Safari Guru recommends private road transfers or helicopter access from its international airport in Kigali to all tourist destinations! Rwanda is one of Africa's fastest developing tourist destinations, with leading conservation practices supported by a wonderful culturally-rich purpose-driven nation?
International borders open on 1 August – on arrival in Kigali Airport, visitors must possess a negative COVID-19 test and a second test will be done at the airport. Guests have to wait in designated hotels for the results, expected within hours! Flights available from Kigali to Tanzania (Arusha, Manyara & the Serengeti National Parks) and to Kenya (Nairobi) & vice versa.
From the diversity of Namibia to the pristine waterways of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, and the worlds most significant whale migration off the Cape; Southern Africa has so much to offer. South Africa is still fighting COVID amidst its populations, yet many of its neighbours are well on their way to recovery.
Hopefully, by September 2020 Botswana, Namibia, Zambia or Zimbabwe might be accessible via a limited number of direct flights or connections into each country of interest - and of course, there are ways to access each destination with private international charters.
It is always best to check with your travel consultant about each destination you intend to visit, and also enquire about each properties COVID specific health practices.
