Gonarezhou National Park

Lying on one edge of what is known as The Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park,  Gonarezhou National Park borders the north of South Africa's Kruger National Park and Mozambique's vast Limpopo National Park. These three huge parks make up a truly enormous wild area around the same size as the State of New York or the Netherlands.

Bordering Mozambique and South Africa in Zimbabwe’s southeast corner are two of Zimbabwe’s hidden gems, this is a less developed and less visited area of Zimbabwe than it’s more famous sister’s, Hwange and Mana Pools. The area is huge, beautiful, remote and has phenomenal wildlife.  Although the area is vast, we really only offer a couple of places to stay here. The wonderful, Pamushana Lodge, owned and run by Singita in its own private trust Malilangwe area and several camps within the national park.

Gonarezhou National Park is magical and diverse. The game viewing is good but what is really impressive are the beautiful landscapes, including the Chilojo Cliffs, and the feeling of a real remote wilderness.

Pamushana and the Malilangwe Trust

Truly one of Safari Guru favourite destinations, Zimbabwe’s most luxurious lodge sitting high on a steep hill, surrounded by rocky bush with jaw dropping views over the Malilangwe Dam is Pamushana Lodge. While the property is owned by a non-profit Zimbabwean organisation, The Malilangwe Trust, which supports amazing conservation and local community programmes it is managed by Singita giving it immense luxury and exclusivity.

The Wall Street hedge-fund manager, Paul Tudor-Jones, is a major contributor to this trust and to Tanzania’s Grumeti Reserve in the Serengeti. The Trust is well funded to make a real difference to wildlife and the local people in the area.

From a visiting point of view Malilangwe private reserve is exclusive – the lodge is the only one in the area, guaranteeing exclusivity. The reserve large with extremely varied wilderness areas. Such that it is possible to spend a good deal of time here, relaxing and enjoying fabulous wildlife sightings of all the big five and much, much, more. The reserve has many rare and endangered species such as while and black rhino and roan and sable antelope. The landscape of the area is made up of many mopane forests and baobab trees, the Chiredzi River to the west and has great access to the nearby beautiful Gonarezhou National Park.
