A lodge with a vision, and a view; Bisate combines the ultimate primate experience with their pioneering goal of reforestation and community partnership.
Adjacent to Volcanoes National Park, Bisate is located in a natural amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone, with dramatic views of the peaks of the Bisoke and Karisimbi volcanoes rearing up through Afro-alpine forests.
Considered a top-order bucket-list experience; encountering one of the gorilla groups in the nearby Volcanoes National Park is truly unique, yet reserved for only the very fortunate and privileged in life.
Reflecting the rich culture of rural Rwanda, Bisate boasts six opulent en-suite forest villas, which maximise comfort and views while adhering to environmentally responsible principles. Bisate is Rwanda’s first genuinely luxurious and eco-sensitive safari camp, centred on Africa’s most immersive wild primate experience.
Bisate is within easy driving distance of the Park Headquarters, from where gorilla treks depart daily, and aside from the area’s iconic mountain gorillas, other mammals include the golden monkey, side-striped jackal, serval, black-fronted duiker, elephant, bushbuck.
Walks on Bisate’s property offer birding and a number of the 178 species from the area can be seen. Thirteen species are endemic to the Virunga area, including Archer’s robin chat, mountain black boubou, strange weaver, Rwenzori batis, mountain masked apalis and Rwenzori (collared) apalis.
Guests are also encouraged to participate in the reforestation programme.
Bisate’s vision of reforestation and rehabilitation means that each guest contributes to biodiversity conservation and local community upliftment – making a far-reaching positive impact on an iconic endangered species: the mountain gorilla.
