Safari-chic and uber-luxurious Vumbura Plains Camp lies in a remarkably diverse area offering a mix of pristine Okavango Delta wetland, open floodplains, dotted tree-islands and densely wooded savannah.
The annually flooded grasslands making up much of the Vumbura Plains Concession are locally referred to as 'melapo' and offer excellent seasonal viewing of elephant, giraffe, impala, kudu, zebra, common waterbuck and reedbuck, tsessebe, wildebeest, red lechwe, buffalo and even sable antelope. Hippo and crocodile are resident in most of the waterways, which also offer exceptional birding both from land and boat. There are several resident pride of lion, and other predators include leopard and the highly endangered African wild dog and cheetah.
The diversely rich terrain drives a mix of activities; game-walks, open 4x4 vehicle safaris, mekoro (traditional dugout canoe) and boats delivering an all-around African safari experience. Vumbura is also one of the only areas in the Okavango offering scenic balloon flights; allowing a unique vantage point over the pristine waterways and wooded islands.
