Serian Serengeti North

Serian Serengeti North is a mobile camp, and the wildebeest migration governs it's movements and setup location. From mid-June to mid-November, the Serian North team – along with 1.6 million gnus – are situated in the far north of the Serengeti plains.

The camp strikes the perfect balance between colonial camping style, and elegant accents of comfort – six spacious and lavish tents, each complemented by tasteful décor that lends a touch of sumptuousness to the interiors.

The ensuite bathrooms include a bucket shower and a flushing toilet – classic safari simplicity with a nod to life's little comforts.

The beauty of Northern Serengeti is it is the heart of the crossings, and in this respect, Serian is all about location. The camp is set a mere two kilometres from the Mara River, within minutes of the major crossing points.

Eight luxury (including one family) marquees, each unique in their own way furnished with large double beds, flanked by bedside tables and writing desks, the adjoining "bush bathrooms" include a bucket shower, twin basins and a flush ceramic toilet. Hanging swathes of cotton and canvas walls provide complete privacy. The Mess deck and indoor fireplace leave guests with the impression of having found a home from home! Enjoying an expansive view of the Serengeti, the deck area plays host to a great deal of wining & dining.

The cornerstone of a safari experience at Serian is that each group has their own open-top safari vehicle, and their own dedicated guide and spotter. The freedom this grants you is key to getting the most out of your stay: go where the day takes you, be it a full day out with a picnic in the wilderness, or a lazy siesta back in camp before that ice-cold sundowner…

Serian's walking safaris are also a beautiful way to explore: set off with the first light in the company of Alex or one of our their guides, and tune into the whispering savannah silence away from the hum of a vehicle. As you ease into a slower pace, you'll notice your senses picking up on the finer details: the intricate perfections of a skeleton, a map of secret paw prints, a microcosmic universe in a termite mound.

We recently returned from Kenya, had a fabulous safari designed by Deon de Villiers of Safari Guru. We had some wonderful sightings and the whole thing went without a single hiccup. The guides were excellent. Deon was so helpful in allowing us to reschedule several times due to COVID restrictions preventing travel. We visited Sirikoi in the Lewa Conservancy and Serian Ngare, Serian Nkorombo and Mara Plains at Masai Mara, each place offering a different experience, each special in its own way. Loved the rhinocerous at Lewa, giraffe giving birth at Ngare, hippopotamus at Nkorombo and cats at Mara Plains, and so so much more. We highly recommend Deon and the Safari Guru team.

We finally got to take our Kenya/Rwanda adventure with Safari Guru post pandemic. Our trip was a fantastic experience that immersed us in Africa. The holiday went as planned, everything was organised so we were gently steered from place to place, which we enjoyed as we found we weren't "travel fit" after sitting on sidelines for two years! Our lodges in Kenya were beautiful, nice and small, felt like you were part of a family, rather than a customer! Rwanda was a highlight, an amazing country with a shocking past that is moving forward beautifully. The advice from Deon to do two gorilla walks was perfect. Our first day we hiked in to mountain and when we got there the heavens opened and it didn't stop! The scouts found 6 gorillas for us to glimpse as they were hiding from rain too! We trekked down in the mud, rivers of water ending up bedraggled! It was a great experience but the next day was perfect! Beautiful blue skies, trekked up and gorillas were everywhere, sunning themselves and eating vigorously. Was awesome being so close and they couldn't care less! Would highly recommend safari Guru, they planned us a perfect holiday and are easy to contact with queries and answer promptly. Travelling on our own was great as each place we stayed, there were like travellers from around the world to socialise with. Thanks Deon and Ashley
