San Camp is a strikingly beautiful tented camp with an exquisite Arabian Nights feel, ideally suited to its dramatic location on Botswana's vast Makgadikgadi Pans.
The camp is set on the edge of the Ntwetwe Pan, an area about the size of Northern Ireland, offering spectacular views that stretch to the horizon. It's a truly unique and breathtaking destination, offering a fascinating landscape made up of a series of salt pans interspersed with sandy grasslands and palm-tree islands.
Makgadikgadi starkly contrasts the lush landscapes of the Okavango Delta, both in scenery and wildlife. Although not traditionally considered a prime game-viewing area, the pans are home to a surprising array of wildlife, including some desert-adapted species. Four artificial waterholes, created in 2014, have sustained resident herds of zebra and wildebeest, numbering in the hundreds. These herds swell dramatically from November/December to March, creating an incredible spectacle.
While big game is scarce, sightings of elephants and lions occur periodically. Yet, less common nocturnal creatures like brown hyena, aardvark, and aardwolf are more easily spotted here than in the Delta, adding to the area's allure.
