Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
A dinner setup looking over Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is a world of unbelievable luxury sitting high on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater. The lodge has been called “the game lodge at the top of the World.” It offers simply breath-taking views and offers unashamed luxury as one of the most lavish lodges in Africa.

Described as Maasai meets Versailles, the lodge consists of three camps, each with a guest sitting and dining area complete with private butlers who will cater to your every need. This sumptuous lodge is an eclectic mix of baroque chateau and luxurious African homestead. It is adorned with African touches of wooden artifacts, banana leaf ceilings, and grass roofs but complete with Victorian European furnishings, antiques, glass chandeliers, wooden panelling, fireplaces, and leather chairs. It is a real place of contrasts.

The lodge layout and experiences ensure you make the most of the all-important phenomenal views over the Crater and its fertile volcanic soils, feeding a wealth of grazers and guaranteeing a constant biosphere of fantastic wildlife in your vista below.

The property is exceptionally romantic; each suite has everything you need for an indulgent and restful stay. With a huge bedroom, fireplace and sitting areas, enormous en-suite bathroom, separate bath with a view, private bar and coffee making facilities, and floor to ceiling glass windows, ensuring both the bedroom, bathroom, and, of course, the terrace all soak up the beautiful views of the mists above the Crater below.

The lodge is not only luxurious, but it offers incredible food, wine, and activities. You will never be bored at the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, and a highlight is their delicious picnics on the Crater floor. There is a beautiful wine cellar, providing an opportunity for champagne and wine tastings, wine pairing dinners, and private dinners. Activities include thrilling game drives, hikes, cultural experiences with the local Maasai, or visits to a nearby lion conservation team.

Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Abundant in diversity, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is also one of the seven natural wonders of Africa.

The spectacular assemblage of wildlife within the Crater is one of the world’s wonders, and close encounters with wildlife in this Garden of Eden are always memorable. With one of the highest densities of lions and hyena in Africa, an estimated 25 000 large mammals are resident in this bowl of plenty, including the endangered black rhino and leopard.

Game drives descend into the Ngorongoro Crater through a lush highland forest, with magnificent birdlife to be spotted among the different tree species. Once on the grassy crater floor, discover a large variety of grazing herbivores, as well as predators. Depending on the time of year, you may see huge flocks of pink flamingo around the shores of the shallow Lake Magadi.
