Lewa House Kenya
Lewa House Kenya Cottage

Lewa House Kenya sits on top of a hill with an engaging panoramic view of the rolling landscape of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. It overlooks the luggas (valleys) and hills of the Laikipia County, with the horizon rising to the eye-catching views of the Mathews range and the sacred mountain of the Samburu, Ol Lolokwe.

The accommodation at Lewa House is in the form of cottage-style rooms spread out along the hillside, all looking to the expanse of wilderness to the north. There are three original thatched family cottages, each comprising two en-suite rooms and a large shared veranda. The four recently added single-room cottages are built with sustainable, ecological principles in mind whilst still exceptionally comfortable and spacious, with beautiful views across the surrounding landscape.

The heart of Lewa House is a large elegant building with an open fireplace, where at one end, guests can relax during the day and mingle with a drink before dinner. The other end offers a large family dining table where the evening meals are served, hosted by Calum and Sophie Macfarlane.

There is a large shaded verandah extending away from the main house with a comfortable seating area from which you can enjoy a relaxed afternoon drink and soak in the exceptional atmosphere of Lewa House.

Beautiful shaded gardens surround the house, and breakfast or lunch on the lawn is a special treat. The house also has a large swimming pool that overlooks a waterhole providing some of the best game viewings on Lewa!

Activities here are plentiful, and you'll be spoilt for choice and never bored! Lewa Wildlife Conservancy has excellent game-viewing with a great chance of seeing white and black rhino and Grevy's zebra. All Lewa House Kenya safari guides are at least qualified with the Bronze qualification certified by the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association and have a natural passion for the flora and fauna of Kenya and the biome within the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. The guides are all incredibly knowledgeable and happy to accommodate any particular interests you may have – wildlife, cultural or historical.

Other activities which can be arranged are bush walking (weather and local conditions dependant) and, at extra cost, horse-riding (for both beginners and experienced riders). Forest walks in the nearby Ngare Ndare forest, where there is a beautiful waterfall pool to swim in, fishing, fly camping, and other adventurous excursions can be arranged. Massages are also available. Increasingly popular are helicopter 1/2 day adventures. While not cheap, they allow guests to see more of Kenya, appreciate its beauty and sheer size, and, of course, eye up Mount Kenya.
