Angama Mara Kenya

Angama Mara in Kenya is a remarkable owner-run luxury safari lodge inspired by the Swahili word for 'suspended in mid-air', and it is located high above the floor of Africa's Great Rift Valley. While the camp itself is situated on the border of the Mara Triangle, a notable wildlife area in itself, Angama Mara overlooks the Maasai Mara National Park, considered by many as the loveliest game reserve on the continent.

Angama Mara safari camp is a magnificent destination, offering everything one would expect from a luxury safari offering in this part of East Africa. The camp itself comprises two separate intimate safari camps of fifteen tented suites each. The facility has its own airfield only minutes from the camp and quick and easy access to the Maasai Mara National Park below. Tailor-made safari days and famously warm Kenyan hospitality are what this exception safari offering prides itself on.

The architecturally dramatic guest areas of Angama Mara were inspired by Nairobi's Muthaiga Club, which was built in 1917 and famously featured in the blockbuster movie Out of Africa. Similar to most early colonial design in Africa, the inside of the guest areas become the outside, and vice versa.

It's quite common at Angama Mara for all the action to be out on the deck, and during those dramatic yet brief afternoon thunderstorms, guests will be safely tucked behind the floor-to-ceiling glass doors watching this sought after African spectacle unfold.

At night, the softly-lit architecture of the Maasai brick walls and the cone-shaped buildings that float on a lily pond maintain guests' attention. The library, a lovely quiet and handsome brick-clad oval room, is perfect for offering private dining for guests seeking personal refuge. Complete with WiFi, and offering much personal space together with a thoughtfully chosen collection of books and films on Africa, the library also attracts much guest attention during the quiet times of the day.

The only common shared area between the two camps is The Pavilion, which sits in the heart of the lodge, separating the two individual camps. Easily reached by accessible footpaths, here guests will find the fitness room with Technogym equipment and stacking floor-to-ceiling glass doors overlooking the Maasai Mara National Park, an infinity swimming pool of 12m x 6m heated by solar power and enclosed on three sides for privacy, and both shaded and unshaded sun loungers. The Pavillion also includes the safari shop showcasing the very best of Kenyan craft, and leading off from it, a studio where Maasai ladies bead bespoke items.

Situated in a prime location in East Africa, Angama Mara is easily accessible from major international airports and combines perfectly with all of the safari highlights in the region. Angama Mara offers cloakroom facilities for those guests with a planned late checkout and a late-night flight departing from Nairobi.
